2017 Summer Racing Results
The Carolina Masters had a busy summer of racing! The club attended Virginia Boat Club Sprints, Capital Sprints, Occoquan Memorial Sprints, and Masters Nationals.
Masters Nationals, Oak Ridge Tennessee: Several of our club members traveled to Oak Ridge to compete at Masters Nationals. Congratulations to Yuri Fedoriw for winning gold in the lightweight men’s 2x (both the A and B age categories), and in the lightweight men’s 4x. Congratulations to Celia Merzbacher for winning gold in her in the women’s F 1x and in the E 4x! She also raced in the women’s E 2x and came in 4th overall. Kathryn and Rob Kyle raced in the mixed 2x and placed 4th. Rob came in 4th in the men’s C 1x. In the lightweight women’s 4+ (G), Rachael Brady placed 2nd, and in the women’s 8+ (G) she got 1st! Kathryn also raced with Masters Coaching and came in 3rd in the women’s 8+ (F).
Capital Sprints & Occoquan Memorial Sprints: At Capital, it was windy and rough conditions as usual. In the women’s 8+ CMCC placed 2nd behind the boat from Alexandria, and narrowly beating out Virginia Boat Club (0.83 sec). In the men’s 1x, Rob Kyle placed 3rd (flight 2), and Dave Margolis placed 5th (flight 3). In the women’s 2x, Kathryn Kyle and Liz Jenista placed 2nd. In the women’s 4+, CMCC placed 3rd in flight 3, and 4th in Flight 4. In the mixed 2x, Rob and Kathryn Kyle placed 2nd.
The following day at Occoquan, conditions were better, and CMCC managed to score a few medals! In the women’s 1x, Kathryn Kyle was first. In the men’s 1x, Rob Kyle placed 2nd (heat 1) and Dave Margolis placed 6th (heat 2). In the women’s 4+, CMCC placed 3rd and 4th. In the women’s 2x, Kathryn Kyle and Liz Jenista placed 4th (by less than .01 sec!) and were 2nd on the water. In the women’s 8+, CMCC placed 2nd overall. Finally, in the mixed 2x, Rob and Kathryn Kyle won their event (by less than 1 sec after handicaps were applied!).
Virginia Boat Club Sprints: The sweep team attended the Virginia Boat Club Sprints this past weekend in Richmond, VA. Congratulations to Liz Jenista and Kathryn Kyle on their wins in the Open 2x and Masters 2x races!
2017 Summer Rowing Lesson Registration now open!
The Carolina Masters has two remaining sessions of rowing lessons this summer for individuals 18 years and older. These lessons are for sweep rowing (holding one oar) in a boat for 8 rowers. Lessons will be held at University Lake in Carrboro.
Session 4: August 14, 16, 18, and 21 from 6-8PM ***3 spots remaining***
Rain dates: August 23 and 25 from 6-8PM
CMCC finds gold at the 124C Erg Sprints
The Carolina Masters returned to High Point on February 25th to compete at the 124-C erg sprints in High Point, NC. CMCC rowers won the women’s masters categories for the 40-49, 50-59, and 60-69 age groups, as well as the men’s 50-59 category. Congratulations to Kathryn Kyle, Stacy Rexrode, Joanne Caye, and Rob Kyle for their success, and great work to all the CMCC rowers who participated at this event!
2016 Fall Racing Results
The Carolina Masters have been hard at work this fall, competing in local races (High Point Autumn Rowing Festival) and far (Head of the Charles, Head of the Schuylkill, Head of the Hooch). We've had one of our most successful fall racing seasons to date!
High Point Autumn Racing Festival: Women's 8+ - 1st place, Women's 2x - 2nd place, Mixed Masters 2x - 2nd place, Men's open 1x (Yuri) - 3rd place, Women's 4+ - 2nd place, Men's Masters 1x - 6th (Yuri), 9th (Rob), and 10th (Dave).
Head of the Charles: Men's Senior Veterans II (Avram) - 6th (and an automatic bid for next year!)
Head of the Schuylkill: Men's Masters 2x (Yuri) - 3rd, Men's Championship Lightweight 1x (Yuri) - 8th, Men's Masters Lightweight 1x (Yuri) - 2nd.

Summer Racing Results
This summer the Carolina Masters went to Virginia Boat Club Masters Sprints in Richmond, VA, Capital Sprints in Washington, DC, Occoquan Masters Sprints in Fairfax, VA, and Masters Nationals and competed in the women's masters 8+, women's masters 4+, women's masters 2x, mixed 2x, and the men's and women's 1x events. Notable results from those races are a first place finish by our women's 8+ in the Masters 8+ (B age category), first place in the mixed 2x at Capital Sprints!

CMCC competes at 124-C erg sprints

The Carolina Masters women's sweep team competed at the 124-C erg sprints in High Point, NC. We had a great time - no better way to do a 1k erg piece then surrounded by your friends cheering you on! Everyone met or surpassed their personal goals, and we managed to win 3 of the events we entered: Masters 30-39, Beka Layton; Masters 50-59, Stacy Rexrode; Masters 60-69, Nina McPhaul. Full results:

2015 Hooch is over and CMCC had a great time! We had rowers who competed in the Men's Open 4x, Women's Masters 8+, Women's Masters 4+, Mixed Masters 2x, Women's Masters 2x, Men's Master 1x, Men's Master Lightweight 1x, and Women's Master 1x.
